BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) Demolition of part of a downtown mall in Vermont's largest city is set to begin after the Burlington City Council approved a final development agreement for a new commercial and residential center.
Developer Don Sinex told the Burlington Free Press on Tuesday that barricades will likely be put up around the existing building in November and interior demolition will begin shortly thereafter.
The newly named Burlington City Center project is expected to rise as high as 14 stories and include housing units and office and retail space.
Sinex says it's "time to execute" after nearly two years of planning and a challenge from residents worried that the building wouldn't fit the character of the area.
