Man faces multiple charges after assault at Barton bar

BARTON, Vt. (WCAX) An East Haven man faces nine charges after allegedly threatening people with a knife at a Barton bar and then assaulting an officer.

State police responded to the Lakehouse Saloon just after midnight Saturday after a report that a man was threatening other customers, acting violently and refusing to leave. Police say he appeared to be impaired by drugs.

Police say Benjamin Clarke, 51, was asked to leave and that after refusing, he began throwing pool balls at people, striking one person in the face. Clarke was taken outside where he began threatening the bouncers and others with a knife. They say he slashed the tires of cars in the parking lot.

Police say he punched one trooper in the head and attempted to disarm them.

He was eventually taken into custody and transported to North Country ER for treatment and evaluation. He faces nine charges including aggravated assault on law enforcement, disarming law enforcement officer, impeding public officer, criminal threatening and aggravated assault. He's due in court Monday.
