The Vermont Secretary of Education is warning school districts to act soon on forced mergers under Act 46.
French says there are enough days for each newly formed district to become operational by July 1. He says ignoring the deadline will result in serious consequences for students and staff.
French's statement comes after a judge denied an injunction on forced mergers requested by school districts.
The Vermont Legislature is considering a bill that would grant a one-year extension to many of the affected districts.
The Senate Education Committee is scheduled to review the House-passed bill Tuesday.
