Vermont State Police are investigating a fatal, head-on crash that happened in Groton just before 5 p.m. Saturday.

Witnesses told police Davan Ostrover, 48, was traveling on Route 302 when he crossed the center line and struck another car.

Ostrover was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he was not wearing a seat belt.

St. Johnsbury Police Chief Timothy Page and his wife, Colleen, were in the other car. They were taken to the hospital.

St. Johnsbury Police Capt. Jason Gray said a group of officers visited Page and his wife in the hospital.

"He seems to be in pretty good spirits, considering what happened. I jokingly said, 'I assume you'll be in tomorrow.' He said, 'I'll probably not be in tomorrow.' But I assume he'll be in this week," Gray said.

Gray said his chief has a broken hand and rib. He says Colleen Gray's injuries are more severe.
