Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire at a vacant home in Burlington Friday morning.

Fire officials say around 9:25 a.m. neighbors of the North Winooski Street home, including 13-year old Jasper Martinez, smelled smoke and heard alarms.

"I was like, 'Dad I smell smoke,' and we didn't see anything. And then I came back outside with a box and that funnel right there was just pouring smoke, and I was like, 'Dad, I'm pretty sure the house is on fire,'" Martinez said.

Officials say the fire started in the kitchen of the two-story home and was extinguished in under 10 minutes. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The street was closed down from North Street to Pearl Street for about 90 minutes.
