First look at North Country prison break drama

DANNEMORA, N.Y. (WCAX) Life in small-town Dannemora centers around the imposing, maximum security Clinton Correctional Facility. The nation's attention turned here in 2015 after two convicted killers orchestrated a Hollywood-style escape.

Richard Matt and David Sweat managed to dig out of their cells into the tunnels under the prison and escape through a manhole. Their getaway triggered a three-week manhunt that ended with both suspects shot. Matt was killed. Sweat is back in prison.

Catching the cons cost New York more than $22 million. After the hunt, some staff members paid with their jobs, including a smitten prison seamstress who helped with the escape. She ended up behind bars herself.

Sounds like a movie, right? Well, it kind of is now.

The first trailer is out for "Escape at Dannemora," a miniseries based on the prison break. It's directed by Ben Stiller and stars actors Patricia Arquette, Paul Dano and Benicio Del Toro.

The making of the series was a bit like deja vu for area residents with roads closed and a fleet of actors dressed as prison guards, police and even reporters dotting the North Country.

Now, that production ready to air. How true to the story is it? You can decide for yourself when the series premieres on Showtime Nov. 18.
