First trial for fatal homeless encampment attack scheduled

A woman charged in a fatal assault at a Vermont homeless encampment is scheduled for a four-day trial later this month.
Twenty-four-year-old Myia Barber is scheduled for trial the week of Sept. 24. The Burlington Free Press reports Barber pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder charges.
Barber is charged with the death of 38-year-old Amos Beede, who died several days after the 2016 attack. Cases are pending for three other co-defendants. All have pleaded not guilty.
Per a plea agreement earlier this year, 26-year-old Allison Gee will be required to testify against her co-defendants. She is currently serving a five-year prison sentence.
Police say Beede was attacked as a result of an ongoing feud between two homeless camps in Burlington.
