BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) The former head of the Environmental Protection Agency spoke at UVM Friday.

The Davis Center was packed with students and community members listening to Gina McCarthy. She served under the Obama administration as the EPA administrator, and was a public servant for 30 years.

Friday afternoon, McCarthy stressed that people shouldn't and can't ignore climate change. She urged people to put aside their politics to work together and protect the environment.

"We cannot allow the environment to be part of a partisan platform,” said McCarthy. “The future is too important. Our health is too important. We have to take back this arena.”

McCarthy will become Director of Harvard's Center for Health and the Global Environment next year.
