The former co-principal at Randolph Union High School pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of molesting a student at the school.

The Valley News reports David Barnett, 50, appeared in Orange County court to answer to charges that he had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student at the school beginning in September 2011 and ending in June of 2012. The student told authorities they had sexual relations in his office and in another location at the school. The former student told a current staff member about the alleged consensual relationship and that they reported it to police.

The Waitsfield man was fired by Randolph school officials earlier this month. His lawyer told the newspaper that Barnett plans to vigorously defend himself against the charges. He is due back in court later next month.
