BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) Some schools in our region are getting money for new books thanks to a literacy grant.

The Children's Literacy Foundation awarded $25,000 to the Sustainability Academy in Burlington. Students from pre-K through fifth grade got to take home one free book Thursday, along with nine other free books throughout the year.

The school is getting $4,500 to enhance their multicultural book selection.

"We have a very diverse community here, so they'll be able to see themselves in books which is so amazing," librarian Sharon Hayes said.

"My favorite part about school has to be reading because I like to be deep in books and I like to have the book in my mind like having an imagination," said Sharmarke, a fifth-grader.

Fletcher Free Library, as well as nine other schools received similar grants. Click here for more information.
