The Harwood Unified Union School Board approved a new budget. It calls for moving middle school students to different schools. The district covers six towns and eight schools.
According to the district web site, starting next fall all 7th and 8th graders will attend Crossett Brook Middle School in Duxbury. Also moving to Crossett Brook, Moretown Elementary's 5th and 6th graders.
The board says it is taking these steps because costs continue to rise as the tax break from merging diminishes. Next year's budget is $39 million. Voters will pass it or reject it on Town Meeting Day.
The board can still reconfigure schools even if the town doesn't approve the budget, due to its district's guidelines under Act 46.
