BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) There were mixed reactions Wednesday to the Vermont Senate's passage of a legalized pot bill.

It was High hopes for some, safety concerns for others, and many expressed disappointment that lawmakers didn't go far enough. Reporter Dom Amato hit the streets to gauge some opinions.

"I think it's great. It's about time we stepped up and decriminalized it to a degree that so many people aren't in prison with criminals who have done murder, rape, arson, whatever," said Jeff Seeber of Plattsburgh.

"It's a pretty scary thing, I'm more concerned about the little ones, what they're gonna see, how they're going to react," said Lauren Xavier of Burlington.

"It's exciting, I hope that legalization is accompanied by reform of the criminal justice system so that everyone can reap the benefits of legalized marijuana," said Emma Spett from southern Vermont.

"I have a son that lives in Seattle, Washington, and so I've visited him and seen the impact it's had on the community, and they seem to be doing ok," said Karen Shingler of Burlington.

There are sure to be more opinions in the coming weeks, especially as we wait for the Governor to sign the bill into law.
