The Queen City is one step closer to building a hotel at the Burlington International Airport.
Monday night city officials approved the BTV Hotel ground lease. Alpha Inn Management is partnering with DEW Properties on the project. In the agreement, the two businesses will lease the property to the city of Burlington for up to two years and give the city a $100,000 deposit.
Alpha Inn owner Adam Dubroff says the hotel would create 30 jobs and include a restaurant, bar and gym.
Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger says the addition is great for both travelers and locals.
"It will be a great additional amenity right there at the airport. The airport would benefit," said Weinberger. "There will be significant revenues or flow from this lease as well as from additional parking that would likely flow from this at the airport."
Weinberger says because the city would lease the property, all financial risks would be taken on by Alpha Inn Management.
For the project to move forward, Airport Director Gene Richards will have to sign off on that lease agreement.
