Ikea relaunches dresser recall after 8th child dies
Ikea has relaunched its recall on millions of dressers and chests after the death of an eighth child.
The company says it wants to increase awareness about the recall of chests and dressers which can easily tip over if they are not anchored to a wall. The death of a California toddler found trapped underneath one of the dressers in May raised questions about whether Ikea effectively spread the word about the recall. It was first announced in June 2016. Seven other children reportedly died after the furniture fell on top of them.
The recall covers 29 million Malm dressers that came in models with three to six drawers. It also includes some other chests and dressers. Ikea is offering full refunds on dressers manufactured from 2002-2016. Customers can also request a free wall-anchoring kit.
