In The Kitchen: Quick and easy marinara sauce

3 tablespoons olive oil
5-8 cloves fresh garlic, minced
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
handful of fresh basil & parsley, chopped
salt & pepper for seasoning
optional: pinch of red pepper flakes


Add olive oil, garlic, and onion to a saucepan or large saute pan. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and a pinch of red pepper flakes if desired. Over low to medium heat allow the garlic and onion mixture to saute for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Next pour in the crushed tomatoes. Bring the mixture to a boil and simmer for 5-10 minutes. Turn off the heat, then stir in the basil and parsley. Let sit for a few minutes, then enjoy as a part of your favorite pasta dishes!

Notes: If your tomatoes in the can end up being bitter or very acidic, you can add a teaspoon of sugar to balance out the acid. Recipe easily doubles.
