Kuster to meet with stakeholders to discuss Farm Bill

HANOVER, N.H. (WCAX) Congresswoman Annie Kuster, D-New Hampshire, and other state officials will meet with Upper Valley farmers Tuesday to get input on the federal Farm Bill.

The bill, set to expire in 2018, is reauthorized every five years and covers a number of federal agriculture and food programs. A key point of discussion is likely to be low dairy prices and reforms to the milk Margin Protection Program. Dairy farmers in New Hampshire have been slammed with drought, and low prices. The MPP, which began three years ago, was designed to protect farmers from low milk prices.

Also attending Tuesday's meeting will be state NH Agriculture Commissioner Lorraine Merrill. It's set to take place at 11:00 at Dartmouth College's Organic Farm in Hanover.
