There was drama at the statehouse Friday night. Lawmakers tried to get a budget bill passed before July 1 to avoid a government shutdown.

The Senate had passed a budget bill on Thursday.

The House was supposed to propose changes to that bill on Friday.

However, House Democrats voted down any compromise and decided to vote on the Senate bill without changes.

This angered House Republicans. Some were not in attendance when a voice vote on the budget passed just before midnight.

Democrat Representative Kiah Morris tweeted late Friday night, wiritng, "We voted on the budget. A group of Republicans chose to walk out the door while we were still in session. They walked on the final vote. Now Republicans want to complain about the vote results."

Republican Representative Heidi Scheuermann sent out a tweet a couple of hours later. "Shameful display of dishonesty and hypocrisy. If it hadn't been so disgusting and pathetic, it would have been funny. The House majority should be ashamed of themselves," he she wrote.

What this likely means is we'll see House lawmakers back at it on Monday.
