Plea deal in deadly Vermont crash on hold

BARRE, Vt. (WCAX) No plea deal yet for a man accused in a deadly crash.

It happened in 2014 in Woodbury. Police say Frank Sargent crossed the center line on Route 14 in Woodbury and hit two motorcyclists. Joseph Robello, a former Massachusetts police chief, died in the crash. Another man was seriously injured.

Sargent pleaded not guilty to negligent operation in 2014.

Now, a plea deal is in the works. Prosecutors say the victim's family is ready to put the case behind them.

"This crash occurred in 2014, so they've waited a long time for resolution and it takes an emotional toll. And so I'm hoping we will be able to get this resolved so they can get some peace," Washington County Deputy State's Attorney Kristin Gozzi said.

Sargent is expected back in court next week.
