RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) A Vermont man has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison for an armed robbery at a convenience store in 2015.
The U.S. attorney's office for the district of Vermont says 28-year-old Matthew Hinton had pleaded guilty to robbing the store, as well as possessing a stolen firearm, which he stole during a burglary in Orwell, Vermont, a couple of days before the robbery.
Court records say Hinton pointed a revolver at the store clerk and demanded that clerk open the cash register drawer. He left with $80 and two cartons of cigarettes.
Hinton recently pleaded guilty to unrelated state burglary charges and was sentenced to four to 10 years in prison. The federal and state sentences will run concurrently.
Hinton also faces a pending escape from custody charge.
