ARLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) Vermont State Police say an Arlington man who was wounded Monday after exchanging gunfire with two troopers is facing attempted murder and aggravated assault charges.
Police say an arrest warrant was issued for Matthew Novick, 40, of Arlington, who's being treated for gunshot wounds at a New York hospital. Authorities said he was in critical, but stable condition Tuesday.
Novick is expected to be arrested when he is discharged from the hospital.
The two troopers who fired their weapons were identified as Shawn Sommers and Raymond Witkowski, both of whom were hired in July 2016.
Police say the evidence shows Novick fired on the troopers first, and they took cover and returned fire. Novick was hit multiple times.
The investigation is ongoing at this time.
