POULTNEY, Vt. (AP) A Vermont grocery cooperative says it will not reopen following the announcement that the nearby Green Mountain College will close.
The Rutland Herald reports the Stone Valley Community Market board says it feels dissolving is "the only reasonable and ethical course forward."
The board says it recently lost a $10,000 grant, and its financial situation was made worse by the coming closure of the college.
The market sold local meats, cheeses and other produce. It had closed in December with plans to reopen in February before the college's announcement.
Board chairwoman Samantha Kowalski says they will have a member meeting Feb. 21 where they can vote on whether to accept the board's recommendation.
Any remaining assets will go to members of the co-op and may be paid later.
