BURLINGTON. Vt. Residents will soon be able to learn more about the future of Burlington Telecom.

Burlington’s City Council is holding a special meeting Monday where community members can learn about the three bidders looking to buy the company. The finalists are Keep BT Local, Ting/Tucows, and Schurz Communications. An advisor will be there to answer councilors’ questions about the cable and internet provider.

Councilor Joan Shannon is hopeful residents come to learn about each of the offers.

"It's very important to our future, maintaining this state of the art system that we have and which of these offers is going to best be able to deliver that service for the public,” said Joan Shannon.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7pm at City Hall. The Queen City is required to sell Burlington Telecom as part of a settlement with Citibank and a local investor.

“I think it's a high level of interest for Burlington residents and that it's important to understand the complexities of these offers when they weigh in,” said Shannon.

During former mayor Bob Kiss's administration, $17 million dollars of taxpayer money was used to prop up the company.
