NH couple arrested for violating court order to surrender child

David Wambolt and Sarah Leonard

ACUSHNET, Mass. (WCAX) A New Hampshire couple have been arrested after authorities say they violated a court order to surrender their son to social services.

The case spans Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Massachusetts Police say David Wambolt, 42, and Sarah Leonard, 31, of Swanzey, New Hampshire, were arrested Thursday.

Police say the couple were ordered by the court to surrender their 1-year-old son to the Vermont Department for Children and Families. While they can't release details about the case, police say Wambolt made past threats that he'd shoot anyone who tried to take his son away from him.

Investigators say the parents fled with the child from Vermont to New Hampshire before going to a family member's home in Acushnet, Massachusetts. Both were arrested there without any issues and are charged as fugitives from justice.

The boy is in state custody.
