The New York State Police are investigating a body found near a local beach in the town of Plattsburgh.

An employee at Cumberland Bay State Park says two campers were walking along the beach Tuesday and spotted a man's body floating just offshore.

Police have not yet identified the man but say he was found around 1 p.m. They did not say how long his body had been in the water.

The park employee said the man was floating in about a foot of water and appeared to have been in the water for "quite some time." Police did not confirm that.

We asked if anyone went missing from the campground over the last couple of weeks and the employee said no.

Police say the case is under investigation and no further details were immediately available.

The 350-acre state park is located north of Plattsburgh on the Cumberland Head peninsula. It's a popular spot with campers and day-users during the summer.
