CONCORD, N.H. (WCAX) New Hampshire Health officials Friday announced the state's first case of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in a child.
The coronavirus-related syndrome appears to impact children who have tested positive for having had the disease and subsequently develop other serious symptoms weeks later including stomach pain, vomiting, fever and possibly a rash.
New Hampshire state epidemiologist Dr. Benjamin Chan said the child under 20 is from Hillsborough County and was hospitalized. No other details were made available.
Chan says about 200 children under 20 have tested positive for COVID-19 to date, about 5% of all cases.
New York, where the syndrome was first noticed, is investigating about 160 cases as of this week. It has been linked to at least three deaths in New York.
Officials Friday reported 81 new positive cases, bringing the statewide total to 4,014. They also reported 5 new deaths for a total of 204.
