Opening of South Burlington supermarket draws a crowd
Good timing for a new grocery store to open in our region as the promise of a fully stocked supermarket brought out hundreds.
The new Hannaford on Shelburne Road in South Burlington decided to delay their grand opening celebration and held a soft opening on Saturday.
Many families came prepared for the crowd by wearing masks and gloves.
"We kind of ran out of food in our house because we kept eating it and because of the coronavirus thing going around, so we don't know if we are going to have to stay home or anything so we just decided to stock up," said Saroura Britt of South Burlington.
"We have two teenage boys ramming around the house, plus our daughter at home, as well, so we're plowing through a good amount of food. So, we're trying to make sure that we've got the bellies pretty well taken care of," said Charles Dinklage of Burlington.
Customers say the employees handed out sanitizing wipes at the door.
