New addiction treatment center coming to Bennington
New addiction treatment help is coming to southern Vermont later this month.
Experience Wellness Centers plan to open a center on Dewey Street in Bennington. It will offer medication-assisted treatment options to patients as well as counseling.
The Vermont Health Department says the company has been providing services at four locations in Massachusetts for several years. Jolinda LaClair, the state's director of drug prevention policy, says there is no waitlist for treatment. Still, there are gaps private companies like Experience can meet, especially since there is no treatment hub in the area.
"They will provide some of the treatment that is critically needed for a fairly good-sized population of people who have opiate use disorder and are traveling either to Rutland County or Windham County in order to access some of the treatment supports they need," she said.
She also says the only way the state is going to continue moving forward with treatment is with similar public-private partnerships to address needs in many communities across the state.
