NEWPORT, N.H. (WCAX) Firefighters are crediting a quick response for knocking down a three-alarm blaze at a building supply company in Newport, New Hampshire.
The fire broke our at LaValley's Building Supply a little after 9 a.m. Friday. By the time firefighters arrived, one of the buildings on the property was already fully involved. Ten area departments were called in to help. Firefighters say that mutual aid was crucial in making sure that the flames did not jump to the other structures.
"Unfortunately, we couldn't do much with the first building. Once the air got to it, it went very quickly. At that point our main focus was protecting the store and trying to stop the spread to the building directly behind -- which we did," said Newport Fire Dept. Deputy Chief David McCrillis.
One firefighter was transported to the nearby hospital as a precaution. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but is not considered suspicious.
