Norwich University honors veterans past and present

NORTHFIELD, Vt. (WCAX) Sunday marks the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, which ended World War I. Norwich University took time to honor all veterans Friday.

The oldest private military college in the nation held its Veterans Day observance on campus. They conducted a Corps of Cadets review, where many students came marching in and saluted those who came before them. The ceremony included cannon fire, a laying of a wreath in front of the American flag and the school's marching band.

"Duty and honor for our country are sort of the founding principles of Norwich and service to others around the nation for self, so I think it's really embedded into who we are and our ethos to celebrate services and this is one really apparent way to celebrate that service," said Patrick Gardner, a retired U.S. Navy commander.

The ceremonies will continue throughout the weekend to celebrate veterans both past and present.
