An annual event that commemorates a historic Lake Champlain naval battle is changing course this year.

The Battle of Plattsburgh took place in September 1814 and marked a turning point in the War of 1812. To keep the commemoration going during the pandemic, organizers are working on a nontraditional event.

The 1814 Commemoration Inc. announced the launch of a new nonprofit group focused on planning. Organizers say instead of in-person events, the traditional September festival will use social media posts, videos of past events, historical talks and contests for both adults and children.
