Police: Norwich student impersonated officer to get new roommate

NORTHFIELD, Vt. (WCAX) Police say a Norwich student is in hot water for impersonating a police officer to try to get a new dorm mate.

Vermont State police say Liam McKelvey, 22, of Northfield, wrote emails claiming to be a trooper. Police say it was all an attempt to create a phony restraining order between his roommate and himself, in hopes of getting his dorm room assignment changed. The email allegedly included the email signature of a detective with the State Police.

McKelvey was arrested this week. He's charged with impersonating an officer. He's is due in court in October.
