Police: Cyclist found on the road seriously injured

BRISTOL, Vt. (WCAX) Police are trying to figure out what happened after a cyclist was found lying in the middle of the road with serious, life-threatening injuries.

Police responded to Route 116 in Bristol on Wednesday night.

They say Ernest Martin, 51, was headed south on a motorized bicycle.

Someone reported the biker in the roadway and called for help.

We're told Martin's condition is critical but he is expected to survive.

Police say he suffered injuries to his head, shoulder and stomach.

Authorities tell us he was not wearing a helmet.

Police say the investigation is still in its early stages. Anyone with information on what happened or who saw Martin Wednesday is asked to call state police at the New Haven barracks at 802-388-4919.

The roadway was shut down for hours but is back open.
