CABOT, Vt. (WCAX) Vermont State Police are investigating an accidental shooting in Cabot that injured an 8-year-old girl.
It happened Wednesday at about 1 p.m. at a home on Main St.
Police say a 3-year-old boy accidentally discharged a gun, resulting in an injury to his 8-year-old sister's arm. It was not life-threatening. The girl, who is from Barre, was airlifted to the UVM Medical Center for treatment.
We have been told the incident was due to a firearm being left out within the home. Police say accidents like these can be avoided with correct firearm storage and common sense.
"Certainly gun safety measures can, can prevent accidents like this, so some common sense and not leaving things out that can cause injury like that would be a good idea," said Det. Sgt. Drew Cota with the Vermont State Police.
The incident is still under investigation, but there was no foul play.
