Police looking for suspect in Burlington bus station fight

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) Police say they know who assaulted a man at Burlington's downtown bus station just steps from the Church Street Marketplace.

It happened just before noon Monday.

One man was sent to the hospital. WCAX News was at the scene as the victim was being treated. The man was bleeding from the head after hitting a wall but seemed awake and alert when rescuers put him into the ambulance.

Police say it all started when the victim and William Schenk, 25, got into a fight.

You may remember Schenk. Four years ago, he left KKK recruitment flyers at the homes of two minority women in Burlington. He was convicted of disorderly conduct with a hate crime enhancement. Schenk appealed it to the Supreme Court last year saying it was free speech. The high court agreed and overturned his conviction.

As for Monday's fight, police say no weapons were used.

Police say the 33-year-old victim was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. They did not release his name.
