Police say burglar was sexually motivated

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) Police are looking for a suspect involved in weekend burglary in Burlington that appears to have been sexually motivated.

Police say someone entered an apartment through an unlocked door in the Hill Section of Burlington Saturday night.

They say "intimate items" were stolen and the more valuable items were ignored.

"Right now this is an isolated event. But as a matter of best practice we always encourage people to lock their doors and windows when they're home, when they're away -- be mindful of their surroundings, and if you see anything suspicious, anyone loitering that doesn't belong, just make sure you take note of that," said Burlington Police Det. Mike Beliveau.

Police are also encouraging residents living in apartment buildings to ask their landlord or property manager to make sure locks and windows are working properly.

The investigation is in its early stages, so police say they don't know if it was targeted or a random burglary.
