WHITINGHAM, Vt. (WCAX) Police are trying to figure out what caused a Whitingham woman to drive off the road and into a creek Wednesday afternoon.
It happened Wednesday at about 5 p.m. on Route 112 in the town of Whitingham. Police say Jean Ellis, 66, lost control and went down a 10-foot retaining wall before her car flipped and landed on its roof in shallow water.
Rescue crews and witnesses immediately jumped into action to get her out of the car, but she died at the scene.
Police say based on a lack of skid marks it appears Ellis didn't try to brake. The investigation into the cause of the crash continues.
