Residents allowed to intervene in Burlington Telecom sale

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) The state Public Utilities Commission has ruled that a group of Burlington residents will be allowed to intervene in the sale of Burlington Telecom.

Six local residents will be allowed to provide evidence and question the city, Burlington Telecom's current parent company Blue Water Holdings and Schurz Communications, the company looking to acquire Burlington Telecom.

The citizen intervenor group had argued that taxpayers deserve a better deal and representation in the case.

In a statement, Solveig Overby, one of the group's members, said, "The PUC process should allow Burlington taxpayers to recoup their investments and ensure preservation of the utility as a publicly accountable infrastructure for civic democracy and the public good."
