Families challenged to find Waldo

ESSEX, Vt. Keep your eyes pealed for red and white stripes if you're walking around shops in Essex.

Phoenix Books has teamed up with 15 other businesses to create a fun scavenger hunt.

The goal is to find all the Waldos and some bonus items from the "Where's Waldo" book series.

Phoenix Books floor manager Brian Wallace said they tried to recruit smaller businesses to promote shopping local.

He said the scavenger hunt can also make running errands more fun for kids.

"Some of the places aren't the most exciting places. It's the U-P-S store. But it will be a little more exciting if they can go into and find Waldo," Wallace said.

Get a passport stamped at each business you find a Waldo. When you find all of them, you get a pin.

There will be a party at Phoenix Books on July 31 with prizes. A real-life Waldo will be there to say hello to young readers.

This is part of a nation-wide event put on by the publisher.

Another 20 businesses in downtown Montpelier and 25 stores in Lake Placid are also hiding Waldos.
