BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) A chain grocery store is teaming up with a Vermont program to feed hungry kids in school.

Nineteen Shaw's locations across the state are accepting donations at the register for Hunger Free Vermont's Breakfast after the Bell Challenge Initiative.

The program is encouraging 38 Vermont schools to provide breakfast to students after the bell.

Marissa Parisi, the executive director of Hunger Free Vermont, says they believe allowing kids to eat during school hours will dramatically increase breakfast participation and prevent hunger.

"They might need equipment, they might need help from Hunger Free Vermont with our technical experts. And we are there for whatever the schools need to make sure that breakfast is in the classroom after the first bell so that kids can eat together and be ready to learn," said Parisi.

Donations will be accepted until Oct. 15 at these Shaw's locations:
- Berlin
- Bristol
- Colchester
- Derby
- Fair Haven
- Ludlow
- Manchester
- Middlebury
