St. Johnsbury man gets jail time for home improvement fraud

ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (WCAX) A St. Johnsbury man is getting 18-months in jail for home improvement fraud.

Washington County State's Attorney Rory Thibault says Ryan Kimball was sentenced on Friday to three to six years, all suspended but 18-months to serve.

Kimball pleaded guilty to the charges in October.

Kimball owns Done Right Construction out of St. Johnsbury. Home owners say he was taking money for construction jobs, but not finishing the work.

Thibault says the impact on home owners was significant.

“Often home improvement fraud cases are looked at as contracts gone bad. We encouraged the court to look at his behavior as being equivalent to a burglary or a grand larceny - situations where incarceration is often part of the punitive response. The conduct here was as egregious as those types of crimes. Mr. Kimball not only stole the victims’ money, he left their homes in disrepair," said Thibault.
