Stowe LAX Classic canceled after organizers get threats
Organizers of the annual Stowe LAX Classic say they have canceled the event after receiving threats.
The event scheduled for the weekend of July 18-19 draws thousands of people to Vermont each year. But some residents told WCAX News they were worried about the influx of out-of-staters it could bring to Vermont. In previous years, 3,000-5,000 people showed up.
According to the event's website, there are safety protocols in place, including limiting groups to less than 100. But some people were still worried about how the close-contact sport will be regulated.
In an email Tuesday, organizers say they were receiving threats from local residents and decided to cancel the event.
