The role of Brexit today

As Americans try to sort out the impact from recent talks with NATO and President Trump's Helsinki summit with Vladimir Putin, our neighbors across the pond await another deal that could make waves on our side.

In 2016, as people stateside fought over the presidential election, Europe fought over Brexit, the push by conservatives in Britain to leave the European Union. Ultimately, Britain voted in favor of this, plunging one of our closest allies into political and financial uncertainty.

Vermont native Stan Sloan is the author of a new book, "Transatlantic traumas: Has illiberalism brought the West to the brink of collapse?" Sloan has worked on transatlantic security issues for 50 years as an analyst at the CIA and for Congress. He now teaches at Middlebury College. He joined our Galen Ettlin to help breakdown Brexit and its potential impact on us. Watch the video for the full interview.
