Toy drive gets bigger and better

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) For the last three years, Troy Austin has held a toy drive at his home in Essex.

"I wanted a nice community event for people to come out and help kids in need and to have as good time and listen to music, get refreshments," Austin said.

This year, Austin is teaming up with The town's Park and Recreation Department to host the toy drive at Maple Street Park.

"I wanted a place where people can go and be out near the main road instead of in a neighborhood and people can drop off a toy and see the trucks that are going to be there," Austin said.

"He (Austin) is a go-getter. I've never experienced anyone who is so motivated as he is," Kirsten Santor of the Essex Parks and Recreation Department said. "It's awesome to work with him. It's great to work with his mom as well and we're really thankful that they're partnering with us, honestly."

The toy drive takes place from 4:30 p.m. to 6: 30 p.m. at Maple Street Park in Essex Junction. People are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy. They can warm up by a fire while enjoying hot cocoa and cookies. There's also a chance to win movie tickets.
