Police are searching for a suspect or suspects responsible for stealing expensive tools and equipment out of a pick-up truck.

Robert Brown tells WCAX that he was leaving a construction job on Stratton mountain late last week. He said the alternator in his white pick up truck gave out. Brown left his truck in a pull-off at the intersection of Lower and Upper Taylor Hill Road. When he came back to the truck the next morning, the car had been destroyed. Windows were broken, head and tail lights were smashed, wires were ripped out and about $16,000 worth of tools were taken.

"I just couldn't believe it. It was beyond anger," Brown said. "That was every tool I had."

Winhall Police say they are waiting for Brown to provide a list of the exact tools and equipment that were stolen. They say that information will greatly help with the investigation.

"I believe it is a crime of opportunity. I believe someone saw a vehicle with nobody around it say hey, I'll take a look and see what I can get out of it, and unfortunately, in this case, it put a family in a real big bind, and a father unable to work and provide for his family," Lt. Derrick Tienken said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Winhall Police.
