Two undocumented dairy workers from the Upper Valley were detained Friday in Woodsville.

The Valley News reports the workers were on a shopping trip to Walmart when they were approached by Border Patrol agents and taken into custody during what officials call "routine patrol operations."

Officials say neither had valid immigration documents.

The U.S. Customs and Border Patrol has said it has the right to search and detain individuals within 100 miles of the U.S. border.

The group Migrant Justice told the newspaper they are seeing an average of one detention a week of Vermont farmworkers.
