COLCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) The Visiting Nurse Association has decided to become part of the UVM Health Network.
The board of directors voted unanimously Thursday night to approve the affiliation.
That means starting Jan. 1, they will begin integrating the VNA operations into the UVM network. They say patients will benefit from greater collaboration across health care providers and the UVM network will be able to better respond to the increasing demand for home health and hospice services.
"People want health, not health care and most health care takes place at home at the kitchen table. And so by the VNA joining the health network, we really extend the reach of that whole system even closer to all the homes in our community," said Judy Peterson, the president and CEO of the VNA of Chittenden & Grand Isle Counties.
Officials say the partnership will also allow the VNA to cut costs. They say they will still provide medically necessary services to anyone who needs them, regardless of their ability to pay.
