In a Wednesday letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Sen. Lindsey Graham, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Scott said he believed it's possible to balance the right to bear arms with the need to keep guns from people who shouldn't have them.
Scott said he believes laws that allow police to take guns from dangerous people and expanded background checks could save lives.
When asked about the governor's letter, a McConnell spokesman referred to comments Tuesday in which the senator said he was waiting to learn what legislation President Donald Trump would sign before acting.
Graham's office did not respond to a request for comment.
