BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) Vermonters are packing up their hunting bags for the start of rifle deer season Saturday. It will last for 16 days and is traditionally popular in the Green Mountains.
Deer Project Leader Nick Fortin says there are more deer in Vermont than in recent years. Most of them are reportedly found in the southwestern and northwestern parts of the state.
A regular hunting license, including the November rifle season buck tag and late season bear tag, is $26 for residents and $100 for nonresidents.
Hunters are being urged to wear fluorescent orange hats and vests for safety.
There are rules about the one buck hunters can take. Officials say to check before you head out to hunt.
