Vermont is hiring a company to scrub personal information from records related to the EB-5 fraud case that will soon be posted online.
The state Department of Financial Regulation made the announcement in a request for proposals this week. The Burlington Free Press reports they are seeking a company that can scrub Social Security numbers and bank accounts from records related to the troubled ski resort at the center of the EB-5 case.
Republican Gov. Phil Scott's administration says the records are exempt from traditional public records requests, due to their involvement in ongoing litigation. DFR Commissioner Michael Pieciak says there is a great public interest in getting these documents "open and as transparent as possible."
