Vermont stores tested for compliance with smoking, vaping age

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) The Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery is doing undercover checks to ensure stores are following the state's new smoking age law.

That law raised the age to buy tobacco products to 21. The state employed minors to try and buy cigarettes and vapes at stores.

Shops and clerks who sell tobacco products to underage buyers could face fines and license suspensions.

Officials say about 90 percent of shops tested followed the law.
